The Gazelles meet in Erfoud for a big briefing

KASBAH XALUCA, ERFOUD
Erfoud | Verifications

Things start to get serious in Erfoud, where the 190 teams meet for the first time before the start of the competition and the discovery of the bivouac.

While some Gazelles joined Erfoud from Meknes, other teams attended a navigation course at the Xaluca hotel. For several hours, five teams discovered the joys of map-reading and plotting points under the watchful eye of Serge, their instructor for the day. The ten Gazelles present were thus able to settle in before putting the lessons learned into practice tomorrow on the prologue. The teams from Meknes then arrived in dribs and drabs throughout the day. At 16 p.m., the participants had a first meeting in the hotel parking lot to to give their donations to the association Cœur de Gazelles. Clothing, toys, medical equipment... The many donations collected will then be sorted by the volunteers and distributed in the three schools where the caravan will intervene throughout the duration of the rally.

Essential recommendations

Around 17 p.m., as the big general and sports briefing approaches, the enclosure of the Xaluca gradually fills up with Gazelles in white vests. The excitement is there, an ola is organized in the room, some Gazelles immortalize the moment by taking selfies... of the sports director but also of Dominique and Marina. The Gazelles are attentive and take notes. " Look out for each other and remember to eat and drink ", said Julien Lorber, the chief medical officer. " You are a mostly novices; we will do everything we can to help you understand the philosophy of our event ", emphasizes Dominique. Marina, for her part, asks the Gazelles to " pay attention to the country that welcomes us ». And to protect the environment, many actions are implemented on the bivouac: sorting of waste, recycling of water bottles...

Ludovic Taché, sports director, goes over the sporting regulations and recalls the basic rules: “ Seat belts and helmets are mandatory ". " Otherwise there will be a penalty “, he warns. By default, all checkpoints are open between 7 a.m. and 20 p.m. unless otherwise indicated in the roadbook of the day. " You won't be able to ride together except in the dunes ", continues Ludo. But not to worry, the prologue will serve as training so that the teams can adjust to the different procedures. " We will be there to guide you “, reassures the sports director. " It's a competition, but it's a competition for you: remember to enjoy yourselves concludes Ludo. At the exit, the Gazelles are reassured. " We can't wait for the prologue now ", Comments Farrah of Team 247 (Amélie Roustan / Farrah Taboubi - Insa Sané). " We're stressed but we can't wait ", says Charlotte of Team 200 (Charlotte MOREAU / Constance QUAGLINO - KARDHAM GROUP).
