LEG 2

DAR KAOUA – DAR KAOUA

LEG 2

DAR KAOUA – DAR KAOUA

IDEAL KM 60 to 80km

ESTIMATED TIME 8h30 (UTC -XNUMX:XNUMX)

To be a gazelle is to cross an ocean of challenges, and when a challenge arises before you in the early morning in the form of an Erg (dune field) 22 kilometers long, there is reason to doubt!

Feared by some, eagerly awaited by others... the time has come for the Gazelles to tackle the dunes of Erg Chebbi ! The best technique is to remember where the shovels, straps and sand ladders are stored, because the day's leg may require quite a physical effort.

The checkpoints can be seen from afar but it will still be complicated to reach them. Who would have thought that finding scraps of red fabric in the desert could bring so much joy?

But they will have to be careful: even if the Gazelles have no time constraints, the sand gets softer, warmed by the sun as the day progresses.

For Crossover/Hybrid, E-Gazelle Auto and E-Gazelle Buggy/Prototype categoriesno big dunes, but it will be far from a Sunday stroll! They will have to cross deep and sandy oueds that will test their driving skills. As the French proverb says, forging makes a blacksmith: in this case, getting stuck in the sand makes a Gazelle!

Teams in AUTO/TRUCK Class must choose one of the three compulsory routes: X, Y or Z

Teams who choose Routes Y and Z will be penalized because they are easier than Route X.

Route Z is the easiest of the three. It meanders at the foot of the dunes and will be preferred by less seasoned teams or those unsure about their vehicle after yesterday's leg. The slopes will be less steep and the hollows less deep, but there will be plenty of sand!

Route Y is a good compromise : The passes are narrower and the driving will be increasingly difficult as teams approach the foot of the highest dunes. Navigation is more complicated and the terrain is more rugged.

Course X is the choice for those who dare. It's the choice of the Gazelles who don't want penalties and are aiming for the top of the rankings, the choice of the fighters who didn't come to admire the foot of the spectacular golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Some offer a breathtaking view and the impression that they stretch as far as the eye can see.
